Pieter-Jan Leemen is Counsel at Stibbe and an experienced banking and finance lawyer advising financial institutions, private equity and debt funds, corporations, and government bodies on sophisticated Belgian and international financing transactions.
His practice encompasses a broad range of lending and structured finance matters, with particular experience in syndicated loans, acquisition finance, restructurings, real estate finance, and project finance.
Pieter-Jan regularly advises clients on complex cross-border transactions, providing tailored guidance on financing structures and the legal and commercial considerations surrounding them. His experience working with both lenders and other market participants enables him to approach transactions with a strong understanding of the different interests involved and the practical requirements of executing significant financing arrangements.
Before joining Stibbe, Pieter-Jan worked as a banking and finance lawyer and subsequently as company counsel for a multinational corporation. This combination of private practice and in-house experience provides him with valuable insight into the commercial considerations facing clients and complements his technical knowledge of banking and financial law.
Pieter-Jan’s growing standing within the banking and finance market has been recognised by The Legal 500, which named him a Rising Star in Banking & Finance in 2024. He is also a frequent speaker at industry seminars, where he discusses emerging developments in finance and innovative transaction structures.
Pieter-Jan graduated in law from KU Leuven in 2012 and subsequently obtained an additional master’s degree in corporate finance from the university in 2015. He speaks Dutch, French, and English.
