Pieter-Jan Leemen is a Partner at Lydian and leads the firm’s Banking & Finance practice.
He earned his law degree from KU Leuven in 2012, followed by a postgraduate degree in Corporate Finance in 2015. Prior to joining Lydian in March 2025, Pieter-Jan held key roles as a banking and finance lawyer at an international law firm and later as counsel in the banking & finance team of a prominent independent Benelux firm in Brussels.
At Lydian, Pieter-Jan specializes in a diverse spectrum of financial matters—including:

He advises a wide range of clients, such as private equity and debt funds, financial institutions, corporations, and government bodies on both Belgian and international transactions.
His leadership, capability, and trajectory in the profession have been recognized by Legal 500, which named him a “Rising Star” in Banking & Finance in 2024. He is also a frequent speaker at industry seminars, where he discusses emerging finance trends and innovative transaction structures.
Since taking the helm as Head of Banking & Finance, Pieter-Jan has brought renewed energy and expanded capability to the team—enhancing Lydian’s ability to guide clients through complex financial transactions both domestically and across borders.
Key areas of concentration:
- international and national financing transactions (including leveraged / acquisition finance, asset finance, asset-based lending, trade, export & commodities finance, real estate finance and project finance in all sectors including waste, roads, health, prisons, rail, oil and gas, renewables, power and telecoms);
- financial restructuring and insolvency (including insolvency, asset recovery and debt restructuring); and
- debt capital markets (including securitisations and repacks, derivatives, high yield bond issues and private placements).
With a specialized team of dedicated lawyers backed by close collaboration with Corporate, M&A, Real Estate, and PPP/Public Law groups, the firm ensures integrated support across complex multidisciplinary transactions.
